When the situation became complicated for the family, Alberto went to the United States to work, which was very difficult for Estrella. She gave her rosary to Alberto the day he left the house, making him promise to return it when they met again.

Represented as he/him/his, Mexican, 50 to 65 years old. He is fluent in Spanish and basic in English. Alberto was born in a small town in the State of Mexico and, along with his siblings, was raised by his mother. Due to the difficult situation his family was experiencing, Alberto was forced to immigrate illegally to the United States when he was twenty years old. His mother gave him her rosary the day he left, making him promise to return it to her the next time they met. However, Alberto was never able to return to Mexico. The film opens in a Mexican restaurant in the U.S., where Alberto is holding the rosary, grieving his mother, who just passed away, and questioning if coming to the United States was worth it.
