About the project:
A brief synopsis is below: Michael starts freshman year at BU but finds himself feeling out of place due to the lack of Black people on campus. His boyfriend Deonte says he’s going to come visit him to cheer him up so Michael wants to get a haircut to look good for his man. He finds a Black barbershop but is intimidated because of how Queer he is so he decides to change his appearance and tone down his Queerness to fit in. However, Michael’s imagination takes him through a rollercoaster of emotions and made up scenarios throughout the experience. Michael gets his haircut without being found out that he’s Queer but when he goes to pay his barber, a photo of him and Deonte falls out, which the barber picks up. Right when Micahel braces himself for his worst nightmare, the barber and the other barbers make light of Michael being gay. Michael now feels a sense of safety, community and confidence as he leaves with a fresh haircut and a new perspective.
